The PPF Committee

The Panther Project Fund is a method through which SRHS faculty and staff can request financing for educational projects. The PPF committee meets every month to hear and weigh requests. Last year PPF administered $87,715 in grants, all of which supported the educational mission of SRHS thanks to the generosity of Foundation members.

No other local high school can boast of a support program as beneficial to students, faculty and staff as the PPF. Chaired by Tony Negri Friend, PPF meets at Adele’s Restaurant in Santa Rosa at 6:30 am the first Friday of the month. Requests are usually presented in person so the committee can ask questions and get to know the teachers.

Current committee members include Foundation President Mary Beseda '74, retired SRHS principal Tony Negri, Nadine Wiggins Smedshammer ’59, Paulette Gomes '68, Dick Owens '72, Benjamin Franklin Catching Friend, Rose Moeller '68, Joanne McLaughlin '74, Stephen Olsen '62, SRHS principal Brad Coscerelli, SRHS Vice Principal Monica Baldenegro, Mary Schaefer '76 Volunteer and principal’s secretary Amber Oden.

The meeting starts at an early hour, but Foundation members are invited to attend to see the program in action.

About PPF

In 1988 the original SRHS Foundation Board of Directors created a Mission Statement that encompassed how to help Santa Rosa High School. It intended to “provided financial support for and community involvement in the school’s activities and to preserve its rich traditions and heritage.”

A large part of financial support is provided by the Panther Project Fund (PPF), the Foundation committee that decides which project requests to fund. The committee members meet the Friday before the monthly Board meeting to hear presentations from administration, teachers, staff and students. Requests vary from a few hundred dollars to, on occasion, thousands. The committee discusses each proposal and approves or rejects the proposal. Over the years, very few have been voted down. Primarily, the committee has supported “enhancement” requests that supplement existing curricula and augment materials and resources for teachers.

Presently, the PPF is, because of budgetary restraints, providing monies for more basic supplies, as the Foundation feels its role is to continue to support SRHS in the manner that will allow it to maintain its status as one of the finest high schools in the county.

In 1988, the amount directed to SRHS programs totaled just $750. The $87,715 given during Fiscal Year 2016 indicates a huge step in giving.
